SITUATION
When we began this engagement with our client, a well-established classical music publisher, the order processing workflow was both time- and resource-intensive. Customers would call the music warehouse directly and place orders over the phone. An on-site staff member would then print the music, pack it, and mail it to the customer. Billing occurred after the order had been filled.
During our initial discussions, we mapped the existing order processing workflow and identified ways to streamline and modernize it. If our client was to compete in what was becoming a very competitive landscape, they would need to capitalize on available technologies that would allow them to automate processes, increase productivity, and maximize sales.
We recommended a two-part solution: a robust e-commerce platform that would move both ordering and fulfillment online and a digital advertising campaign to promote the business and attract new customers.
Our designers and developers customized a leading e-commerce platform to include features that were important to the client, including building a searchable music catalog, offering various payment gateways, and delivering downloadable music assets. Moving the music catalog online gave us the opportunity to promote the client’s products in a search advertising campaign.
In its first year after launching the e-commerce platform and the search advertising campaign, our client’s sales tripled. They also benefited from robust reporting out of the e-commerce solution, and shorter time to order fulfillment.
